The Wildwoods Restaurant Week, June 16-21, 2013

Next week is the week to kick-off the summer in the Wildwoods.  Not only are the crowds still light, it is restaurant week and you can get great deals for dinner.   Get a 4 course dinner for just $30 at many great restaurants, including such favorites as Piro's, Jersey Girl, The Establishment, North End Grill, The Wharf, Q Fire Grille, Gia's, Pacific Grill, and more.  Check out the list and the menus posted by each restaurant and let your mouth water at all the terrific choices.

The weather has gotten really warm so summer is here.  Prime you taste buds and start getting sand in your shoes - the perfect start to the summer season.

Cape May Restaurant Week

Cape May Restaurant Week begins on June 2nd.  This is the perfect time to visit the area and take advantage of some wonderful dining in Cape May at great prices. The options include two dinner levels at $25 and $35 as well as a lunch option at many restaurants. 

Select from many wonderful old favorites including the Black Duck, the Ebbitt Room, Cucina Rosa, Fresco's, Lobster House, Merion Inn, Peter Shields, and the Washington Inn.  Also, some new options, including Sea Salt, the Blue Rose, Beachside Smokehouse, and Harry's Ocean Bar and Grill.  So, whether it is an old favorite or something new, it is a deal that cannot be beat.

It is early in the season, so the beach and the tourist attractions are open and less crowded than during the height of the summer season.  Another great reason to come down to the Cape May area next week.

Cape May County Zoo and Park

The Cape May County Zoo is a favorite of our guests.  They enjoy strolling through the park with the heavy tree cover.  Even on the hottest day, the zoo provides some comfort from the heat of the day.

The Zoo is a surprise for many who look askance at the suggestion when it is raised at breakfast.  What is equally quick to happen is that one or more guests will pipe in that they have been there and recommend it highly.  So, more guests go and the conversation builds over the weekend.

The Cape May County Zoo is one of the top small zoos in the country.  It is not just a little petting zoo designed for young children.  They also have large enclosures that hold large range animals, a reptile exhibit, bird house, snow leopards and lots more.  On April 20th, two baby snow leopards were born and there will be a naming contest soon.  Himani has given birth to 7 cubs in just four years, which is quite rare.  While they are not available for viewing just yet, they will be sometime in June.

If you are in the area, you should definitely consider a trip to the Zoo.

Memorial Day Weekend 2013 in the Wildwoods brings the International Kite Festival

Memorial Day Weekend is the official start of the summer season and what better way to kick it off than with beautiful kites soaring above the beach.  The International Kite Festival will be a beautiful spectacular site to see.  In addition to the show in the skies above, there is an opportunity to purchase kites and try your hand at this great beach past time.  The winds can be pretty strong at the beach so you will need to watch and learn from the experts.

The festival begins on Friday at noon with the 'Unlocking of the Ocean' media event on the beach behind the Wildwoods Convention Center.  Later that night, be sure to be on the beach at Rio Grande for the 9 pm illuminated kite fly.  This is a beautiful site to see.  Then, all weekend long watch the skies above for all shapes and sizes of kites.

Maui's Dog House Opens for the Season in North Wildwood, NJ

Well, the long wait is over.  Maui's Dog House has opened for the 2013 season.  Hurricane Sandy brought some damage to Maui's and it took some time for them to get everything ready for the 2013 season.  But, they are back and better than ever.  We went today to have our first dogs of the season.  With 23 different combination toppings available, there is a combo for everyone.  If you do not care for hot dogs, try their sausage or chicken sandwiches.  And, new last year were the shrimp dishes.  Everything is made fresh and cooked to order.  In the summer, be prepared to wait as this is a local favorite -- it is worth the wait.  Enjoy.

Toast Good Times While Visiting Wineries and Breweries in Cape May County

This weekend will be the perfect time to take a leisurely drive to some of the wineries or breweries available in Cape May County.  A pleasant drive through the county will bring you to quality tastings at old favorites like Hawk Haven, Cape May Winery, Turdo Winery and Natali Vineyards.  Or, try some newer venues like Jessie Creek and Willow Creek Winery.  Not a wine lover???  Try one of our breweries - Cape May Brewing Company or, a bit further away, the Tuckahoe Brewing Company.

Whatever your pleasure, they are only a short drive from your home at the shore - the Candlelight Inn.

Sensational Spring Weekend in the WIldwoods

Well, it has been a rough Winter for all of us.  There have been signs of Spring, but not enough and not soon enough.  One big sign that Spring is coming is that the Sensational Spring Weekend is only a month away.   The Soul Cruisers will play music from the 60s, 70s, 8os, 90s, and today.  So, get your dancing shoes on and come on down to the Wildwoods. This is a fun weekend with lots of music, dancing, nostalgia, and Spring weather.

The Candlelight is here for you to be near the action and to escape from it when you want peace and quiet.
