Best Beach and Boardwalk

When it comes to summer fun, the Wildwoods just cannot be beat; and, it is not just those of us who live here who say that.    Both Smarter Travel and Sherman's Travel have given the Wildwoods great recognition for its summer time activities.

Smarter Travel just named the Wildwoods the "Best Beach Town For A Classic Experience."    This article highlights the "two-and-a-half-mile-long boardwalk filled with carnival games, shops, and food; combine that with free concerts and Friday-night fireworks and there's plenty of good old-fashioned fun to go around. Thrill rides light up the night after the sun goes down, and you can experience one of the tallest and fastest wooden coasters in the Northeast, the Great White".   

Sherman's Travel named the Wildwoods among the top 10 American boardwalks.  "The 38-block beach-fronted boardwalk boasts more rides than Disneyland and is one of the kid-friendliest boardwalks around, with enormous water parks, world-class roller coasters, arcade- and carnival-style games, extreme-thrill rides, and the tallest Ferris wheel on the East Coast. But it’s not all child’s play – one of the newest boardwalk additions is the adults-oriented Beach Club in Ocean Oasis Waterpark (www.moreyspiers.com), complete with private cabanas, hammocks, lounge areas, live music, and spa services".

Tea for Three

In the height of the summer season, I rarely get an opportunity to sit quietly and have a leisurely lunch.  Yesterday was different as I took my sister-in-law and granddaughter to the Tea Room at the Emlen Physick Estate.  It was a delightful experience for all of us as we sat for almost 2 hours enjoying wonderful scones, breads, quiche, fruit and dessert.  It was that rare opportunity to really slow down and talk -- no, actually listen to others as they shared their thoughts.  This will be one of those special times that I remember as I resume my daily activities preparing for guests.

Wherever you are, consider enjoying a tea with friends and you will experience a truly wonderful time.  If you are in the Cape May area, go to the Carriage House Tea Room at the Physick Estate and enjoy theirs.  You will really have a special time.

Crafts and Antique Cars

This weekend brings a great craft show to the Wildwoods Convention Center.  If its too hot outside, you can go into the convention center to keep cool and "shop til you drop."  Quality merchandise is part of this traveling craft show that comes to Wildwood twice each summer.  While some are shopping, others might prefer the Antique Car Show this Saturday on the Boardwalk between 16th and 26th Avenues, which is sponsored by Jersey Cape Region Antique Automobile Club of America.

And, do not forget those great fireworks that can be seen from the porch of the Candlelight Inn on Friday night at 10 pm (weather permitting).

Anglesea BBQ and Blues Festival this Weekend

The summer is heating up and so are the smokers and grills at the NJ State Championship BBQ Festival in North Wildwood, NJ.  July 9-11, Anglesea hosts a BBQ and Blues Festival with mouthwatering ribs, chicken brisket and pork.  So, after a great day at the beach, you can head on over to the Festival to listen to music and eat some great food.
