Well, we are in the final stretch for August and we are, happily, tired. We have been thrilled to have lots of guests - repeats and first-timers. In addition to our regulars, we have been fortunate to see guests who have not been here in several years. It is always rewarding when guests remember fondly their last stay and make an effort to return some years later.
An observation from this summer is that we have had many women travelers who have come here solo or with a friend or relative. We have enjoyed having them at the inn and creating a space where they felt welcomed and comfortable. We have enjoyed watching them laugh and enjoy life with a relative or friend -- in the special way that women are able to relate and communicate. Watching their interactions has made me think about the special times I have shared with my sister or with friends while traveling.
This has made me think about how wonderful a B&B setting is for those who want or need to travel alone. While the private time is valued, there is also the opportunity to chat with others during breakfast or afternoon refreshments. The safety of staying at an inn is an attraction -- if they do not make it to breakfast, they will be missed and we will be sure to check on them. Also, knowing that there is someone there to go to if there is a problem, is a comfort for them.
So, why not think about visiting a B&B with a sibling, cousin, or friend or, even a group of friends. Schedule a girls pampering weekend or a Murder Mystery Weekend. It will bring back memories of time gone by and give you the chance to create new memories. Sharing that special time with friends may just be the thing that lifts your spirits and fills your soul.
